Dark Ocean Wall Art – Oversized Navy and Gold Stormy Sunset Textured Look Canvas for Living Room

A heavy sky sits on a dark sea, and a narrow band of gold breaks the horizon where the sun is getting through. Below it the swell is built up in deep navy and teal with white foam dragged across the crests, and gold catches again on the water in front — the way it does on a real sea at the end of a bad day.

Almost every coastal canvas on the market is a bright beach at midday. This is the other half of the ocean, and it is the half that works in a room with dark walls, leather, or a lot of wood. It is the only genuinely dark piece we have added this season.

We photographed it in a living room, an entryway, a dining room, a kitchen and a bathroom — then in bedrooms painted warm greige, deep emerald, blush rose, midnight navy and chocolate mocha, where it comes into its own. The close-up shows the foam standing off the surface.

A note on the finish, so there are no surprises. The standard canvas is a printed reproduction with a sculpted, textured look — the surface itself is smooth. If you want texture you can actually feel, choose Hand Painted Textured Original on this page and an artist builds the piece by hand in oil on linen, with real raised paint. Hand Embellished sits between the two: real oil worked over the print by hand, so the brushwork stands slightly proud of the surface.

It is a landscape piece, which is the shape that actually works above a sofa, a bed or a long console — wide enough to hold the wall without overhanging the furniture beneath it.
