Teal and Gold Abstract Wall Art – Oversized Ocean Layers Textured Look Canvas for Living Room

The canvas is built in layers, the way a cliff face is: pale seafoam and chalk along the top, then teal, then a deep marine blue, then something close to black at the bottom. A band of gold runs diagonally through the dark layers near the base, bright against all that depth, as though a seam of ore had been exposed where the rock split.

It reads as water without being a picture of water — no horizon, no waves, just the colours of the sea stacked in order. That is why it works in a coastal room without becoming nautical kitsch, and why it also holds in rooms that have nothing to do with the sea. We have photographed it in a bright coastal living room, in a dark moody space, against warm terracotta boho plaster and in a pale japandi oak room.

It is the piece for a room that needs colour but not pattern. There is a lot going on in the surface and almost nothing going on in the composition, so it adds depth to a wall without adding noise.

A note on the finish, so there are no surprises. The standard canvas is a printed reproduction with a sculpted, textured look — the surface itself is smooth. If you want texture you can actually feel, choose Hand Painted Textured Original on this page and an artist builds the piece by hand in oil on linen, with real raised paint. Hand Embellished sits between the two: real oil worked over the print by hand, so the brushwork stands slightly proud of the surface.

At twice as wide as it is tall, it follows the horizontal line of whatever sits beneath it instead of fighting it — above a sofa, over a bed, along a hallway or behind a dining table.
