Art Deco Wall Art – Oversized Black and Gold Sunburst Fan Textured Look Canvas for Living Room

A gold sunburst fan opens across a black ground, its rays stepped at the outer edge in the ziggurat shape Art Deco borrowed from architecture. The gold is laid as broken leaf rather than flat paint, so each ray is a mosaic of bright and dull metal, and a fine arc of line work rides across the base where the rays converge.

This is the most decorative piece in the range and the least apologetic about it. Deco is having a long moment and most of what sells under the name is a thin graphic print of a fan shape. What makes this one hold up at size is that the black is textured and the gold is genuinely broken, so the whole thing keeps its depth under a picture light instead of flattening out.

It wants a dark room. We have photographed it against charcoal and near-black walls in a living room, a dining room, a bedroom and an entryway, and it is the strongest thing on the wall in all four. Against a pale wall it will still read, but it loses the drama that makes it worth buying — so if your walls are cream, take one of the lighter pieces instead.

A note on the finish, so there are no surprises. The standard canvas is a printed reproduction with a sculpted, textured look — the surface itself is smooth. If you want texture you can actually feel, choose Hand Painted Textured Original on this page and an artist builds the piece by hand in oil on linen, with real raised paint. Hand Embellished sits between the two: real oil worked over the print by hand, so the brushwork stands slightly proud of the surface.
