Ivory and Gold Wall Art – Oversized Textured Wave Canvas for Living Room and Bedroom

Long waves of ivory plaster roll across the canvas, combed into fine parallel lines that bend and fold over each other like a dune seen from above. Gold leaf is laid into the troughs where the waves break, so the metal appears only where the surface moves — the flat parts stay white.

This is the quietest piece we make that still has something to look at. It is effectively one colour, so it behaves like plasterwork rather than a picture, and it suits a room where the walls, the sofa and the floor are all already pale and the last thing needed is another competing tone. The gold is the only event in it, and it only shows when the light is at the right angle.

We have photographed it in a kitchen, a dining room, a living room and a bedroom. In all four it reads as part of the architecture rather than as an object hung on the wall.

A note on the finish, so there are no surprises. The standard canvas is a printed reproduction with a sculpted, textured look — the surface itself is smooth. If you want texture you can actually feel, choose Hand Painted Textured Original on this page and an artist builds the piece by hand in oil on linen, with real raised paint. Hand Embellished sits between the two: real oil worked over the print by hand, so the brushwork stands slightly proud of the surface.
