Pigment ink on museum-grade cotton. It will not fade on you.

A slab of cream travertine split down the middle and rejoined with a single seam of gold. The two halves do not match: one side is pale and pitted with the small open pores travertine is known for, the other warmer and sandier, as though the two pieces came from different parts of the same quarry.

That is the whole idea behind kintsugi — the Japanese practice of repairing broken pottery with gold rather than hiding the join. The break is not something to be disguised. It is the most valuable part of the object, and the piece is more interesting for having been mended.

In a room it behaves like real stone: quiet from across the space, detailed up close. The cream and sand sit with linen, oak, bouclé and jute without competing, and the gold seam gives the eye one clear line to follow on a wall that would otherwise be flat.

A note on the finish, so there are no surprises. The standard canvas is a printed reproduction with a sculpted, textured look — the surface itself is smooth. If you want texture you can actually feel, choose Hand Painted Textured Original on this page and an artist builds the piece by hand in oil on linen, with real raised paint. Hand Embellished sits between the two: real oil worked over the print by hand, so the brushwork stands slightly proud of the surface.

It is a 2:1 panoramic, the shape made for the long wall — above a sofa, a sideboard or a bed, where a square piece leaves dead space at either end.
